Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some answers to a few of the most frequently asked questions about Reiki.

What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient form of holistic healing, often considered to have been used by Jesus and the Buddha, which was rediscovered by a man named Dr. Mikao Usui. Reiki is a combination of the Japanese words Rei (meaning “Universal” or “God’s Wisdom”), and Ki (meaning “Life Force Energy”).
Reiki is simple, natural and safe for humans (and animals!) of any age. It is a wonderful complement to other medical/therapeutic treatments to assist with side effects and promote in recovery.

How does Reiki work?
The Reiki practitioner works as a channel for the Universal Life Force Energy, focusing on specific chakras or areas of the body in order to promote healing. The practitioner does not heal you; rather, your body uses the amplified energy in order to heal itself.
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit. Recipients claim many benefits, including relaxation, peace, improved sleep, and general wellbeing.

What is a Reiki treatment like?
For a Reiki treatment, the recipient will sit or lie down, fully clothed. The practitioner will place their hands over or on you in a series of positions in order to channel the energy to specific chakras or areas of the body. Typical treatments last anywhere from 30-90 minutes.
Treatments often feel like a wonderful glowing radiance, moving through and around you. Reiki energy encourages the recipient to release tension and anxiety, and to find a sense of peace.
(If you are uncomfortable being touched, or unable to be present for a session, long-distance Reiki is also an option.)
For best results, at least 3 sessions are recommended.
.
How do I prepare for a Reiki treatment?
-
Avoid consumption of alcohol for 24 hours prior to your appointment
-
Avoid eating red meats and heavy, greasy foods
-
Meditation or yoga is encouraged to promote relaxation and grounding
-
Drink plenty of water
-
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
.
Are there any negative side effects?
Reiki is safe for everyone! Including children, babies, pets, and other animals. Plants respond to Reiki as well! There are no adverse side effects to receiving a Reiki treatment. Although many people can see a difference after one session, it can take several treatments to bring the body into balance. Poor eating habits, lack of sleep, and negative attitudes do not vanish overnight. It can take time to restore physical and emotional energies.
Sometimes, emotional blockages can be released during a Reiki session. Do not be alarmed if you feel emotional or even cry during or after a Reiki treatment; this is normal and can sometimes be a part of the healing process. Be kind to yourself. Drink some more water, eat lighter meals, and get some rest. Allow your body and your spirit some time to heal.
